Auto-Trail’s line-up covers a lot of ground. Compact campervans, slimline low-profiles, family coachbuilts and full A-Class luxury models all sit under one badge. Which is exactly why the brand appeals to such a wide range of buyers.
Here’s a closer look at what actually sets each range apart, beyond the headline specs.

Breakdown of Each Auto-Trail Range
Expedition Campervan
Expedition is Auto-Trail’s entry point into campervan life, and it’s built to be as easy to live with as possible. Models run from the compact 54 up to the 68 XL Flex, which adds a built-in garage for bikes, kayaks or other outdoor gear. Every van gets Grade 3 insulation, which isn’t standard across all campervans at this price point, along with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that keeps the driving experience relaxed rather than van-like.
Layouts favour simplicity over flexibility. Most models sleep two, with straightforward rear bench or fixed bed arrangements rather than the multi-configuration layouts found further up the range. It suits buyers who want a proper motorhome experience without a steep learning curve.

V-Line SE
V-Line SE takes the same compact campervan format and adds a noticeably more premium finish. The San Marco wood trim and aerodynamic body styling give it a more considered look inside and out than a typical entry-level van. It’s still built around agility and ease of parking, so it hasn’t sacrificed the practical side to get there.
Where it separates itself from Expedition is in the details: nicer materials, a more refined driving feel, and layouts designed to feel less compromised for two people living in a smaller footprint. It’s the range we’d point toward if budget allows a step up from Expedition but a full coachbuilt still feels like too much vehicle.

Excel
Excel is Auto-Trail’s slimline low-profile range, built specifically with narrow UK roads and tighter parking bays in mind. The reduced width and low-profile roofline make it noticeably easier to drive than a standard coachbuilt, without shrinking the living space as much as you’d expect.
It tends to suit buyers moving up from a campervan who want more room to stand, cook and store gear, but who aren’t ready for the bulk of a full-width coachbuilt. Layouts stay relatively compact, so it works best for couples or small families rather than larger groups.

F-Line
F-Line stands apart mechanically as much as anything else, since it’s built on the Ford chassis rather than Fiat’s Ducato. That gives it a noticeably different feel behind the wheel, closer to driving a modern van than a traditional motorhome cab. The range spans compact 5.99m models up to the larger F72 and F74, including an island bed layout with an optional drop-down double bed for extra sleeping capacity.
An optional Drivers Pack adds heated mirrors, automatic lights and wipers, front fog lamps, a heated windscreen and cab air-con, which is worth considering if you’ll be covering serious motorway miles. It’s a strong option for buyers who care about the driving experience as much as the living space.

Expedition Coachbuilt
Don’t confuse this with the Expedition Campervan range. Expedition Coachbuilt is Auto-Trail’s budget-conscious entry into full coachbuilt ownership, spanning four models from the high-profile C63 to the six-berth flagship C73. All four sit on a robust 140bhp Ducato chassis with hard-wearing upholstery designed to handle daily family use rather than occasional weekend trips.
It’s a deliberately no-frills range compared to Imala or Frontier, which keeps the price down without cutting corners on build quality. For buyers moving up from a campervan into their first coachbuilt, it’s often the natural next step.
Imala
Imala is one of Auto-Trail’s most popular coachbuilt ranges, largely because of how many layout options it offers. Fixed beds, multiple berth configurations and a genuinely wide spread of floorplans mean it’s easier to find a layout that matches your specific travel style than with most other ranges. The 2026 redesign brought a sleeker exterior, Polyvision ECO windows and an optional electric drop-down bed on selected models.
It sits comfortably between the budget-focused Expedition Coachbuilt and the premium Frontier range, offering a genuine step up in finish and technology without moving into luxury pricing.

Frontier
Frontier is where Auto-Trail’s coachbuilt range moves properly upmarket. Three six-berth models, the Scout, Delaware and Comanche, each come with a 180bhp engine, which keeps the driving experience manageable despite the extra size. ALDE wet central heating is standard here, a genuine advantage for anyone planning to tour through colder months rather than sticking to summer trips.
For 2026, the range picked up more colour and trim options alongside a handful of feature updates. It’s built for buyers who want serious space and cold-weather comfort without stepping all the way up to an A-Class.

Grande Frontier
Grande Frontier sits at the top of the range as Auto-Trail’s only A-Class model. The open cab layout, ambient interior lighting, wraparound soft-touch dashboard and touchscreen head unit all point to a different tier of finish than the rest of the line-up. Like Frontier, it comes with ALDE central heating as standard.
It’s for buyers who’ve already decided space and comfort come before price, and who want the driving position and road presence that only an A-Class layout can offer.
Finding the Right Range for You
Eight ranges, each built around a genuinely different priority, whether that’s ease of driving, layout variety, cold-weather comfort or outright luxury. That’s the real value of the Auto-Trail badge: it’s rarely a question of whether there’s a model for you, more a question of narrowing down which range fits how you actually travel.
