The Ultimate Guide to Chausson Motorhomes

By Elite Motorhomes on March 23rd, 2026

If you’ve been searching for a motorhome that punches well above its price tag, you’ve almost certainly come across the name Chausson. These French-built vehicles have become one of the most popular motorhome choices in the UK and with good reason. They combine genuinely clever layouts, solid build quality and exceptional value into a package that suits everyone from first-time buyers to seasoned tourers.

This guide from Elite Motorhomes covers absolutely everything about Chausson motorhomes. Whether you want to understand the brand’s history, compare models or get to grips with pricing – it’s all here. Think of this as the go-to holy book for Chausson motorhomes.

What’s In This Guide?

The History of Chausson Motorhomes

1903: The Foundation in Paris

Chausson’s story is one of the most fascinating in the entire motorhome world, because it didn’t begin with caravans or campervans at all. The company was founded back in 1903 in Paris by brothers Gaston and Jules Chausson, originally manufacturing radiators, heaters and automobile bodies. It was a long way from what the brand would eventually become.

1940s – 1950s: The Post-War Heritage

Through the first half of the twentieth century, Chausson grew into a significant player in the French automotive supply chain. During and after World War II, the company became famous for producing school buses that transported a generation of French children. It’s a heritage many still reference today, a brand woven into the fabric of French life long before it ever built a motorhome.

1984: The Debut

The real shift came in 1984, when Chausson launched its first ever campervans – the Acapulco models 44 and 56. The debut caused an immediate sensation. Chausson became the first manufacturer to offer campervans with a white body, a decision that sounds straightforward today but was genuinely groundbreaking at the time.

The white coachwork was immediately recognisable on European roads, and the vehicles sold in impressive numbers almost instantly.

1990: The Trigano Partnership

By 1990, Chausson recognised that motorhome manufacturing had a serious future. The brand needed investment to scale and that investor turned out to be the Trigano Group. Trigano Group was one of the most powerful leisure vehicle conglomerates in Europe. Trigano initially acquired a 49% stake in the newly formed Chausson Camping-Cars operation.

1994: Full Acquisition

Four years later, in 1994, Trigano took full ownership of the brand. The Trigano acquisition didn’t dilute Chausson’s identity. If anything, it sharpened it. The core philosophy adopted at this point, “a good product at the right price”, remains the guiding principle to this day.

The brand focused on utility over excess and on finding the smartest possible balance between equipment and price. That ethos is precisely why Chausson motorhomes feel so well specified for the money.

1995 – 2000: The Era of Landmark Models

Through the 1990s and 2000s, Chausson launched a string of landmark models. The Welcome series arrived in 1995 at an accessible price point and became a long-running bestseller, with over 3,000 examples still on the road.

The semi-integrated Welcome 70 followed in 1997 and opened up a new direction in motorhome design.

By 2000, the Welcome 60, a compact family motorhome under 6 metres, demonstrated the brand’s growing ability to deliver clever, space-efficient layouts.

Present Day: Global Scale

Production today takes place at the Trigano VDL facility in Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the heart of the Ardèche region of France. The site covers the equivalent of approximately 33 football fields.

Around 10,000 motorhomes and vans leave the facility each season, with over 1,000 employees and representation in 25 countries worldwide. Chausson has evolved from a Parisian radiator maker into one of the most significant motorhome manufacturers on earth.

What Makes Chausson Motorhomes Different?

Walk into a dealership and you’ll quickly see that Chausson Motorhomes stands apart, not just on price, but in philosophy. The brand doesn’t chase trend-led luxury for luxury’s sake. Instead, it asks a very simple question: what do motorhomers actually need and how can we deliver it brilliantly at an accessible price?

The answer, over four decades, has resulted in some of the most inventive layouts in the industry. Chausson was one of the first manufacturers to popularise the electric drop-down bed over the lounge which is now copied by countless rivals.

They pioneered the Smart Lounge concept, which hides fold-out belted travel seats beneath the upholstery, allowing a single open-plan living space to double as a proper five-seat travelling compartment. Their Maxi Lounge models deliver genuinely generous living areas that feel spacious even by residential standards, an achievement in a vehicle sometimes barely six metres long.

Crucially, Chausson includes features as standard that many rivals charge extra for. Reversing cameras, infotainment systems, cruise control, air conditioning and automatic gearboxes feature prominently across the range, not as costly options, but as baseline expectations. That means the headline price is more representative of what you actually drive away with.

Fact: Chausson sells over 10,000 motorhomes and vans per season across 25 countries, making it one of Europe’s highest-volume specialist motorhome manufacturers.

Understanding Chausson’s IRP Construction Technology

If there’s one technical feature that defines Chausson’s build quality more than any other, it’s IRP technology. IRP stands for Insulation, Resistance and Protection and it’s worth understanding properly before you buy.

What is IRP Insulation?

The insulation element refers to the multi-layer construction of Chausson’s walls, floors and roof panels. Rather than a simple sandwich of materials, Chausson uses a high-quality XPS (extruded polystyrene) foam core of generous thickness within bonded composite panels. The result is thermal performance that ranks among the best in the motorhome industry.

Whether you’re touring Scotland in October or crossing southern Spain in July, the interior temperature remains controllable without the heating or cooling system working overtime. That saves fuel and makes the living environment far more comfortable.

What is IRP Resistance?

The resistance element relates to the structural skeleton of the motorhome body. Chausson uses a wood-and-composite combined structural frame, a deliberate decision that’s somewhat against the grain of current industry trends toward all-composite or all-aluminium construction.

The reasoning is sound: the combination delivers exceptional resistance to loads, meaning floors and walls deform far less over time under the weight of occupants, furniture and storage. The GRP (glass-reinforced polyester) outer skin adds further mechanical resistance against scratches, stone chips from the road, hydrocarbons, ultraviolet radiation and general weathering.

What is IRP Protection?

Protection is perhaps the most commercially significant element of IRP. All materials in contact with the exterior are specifically selected to be rot-resistant and impermeable to humidity. The outer aluminium profiles that seal the construction are glued in position rather than drilled through. This minimises the number of penetrations that could admit water over time. This approach underpins Chausson’s headline warranty claim.

The 7-Year Watertightness Warranty

As a result of IRP technology, Chausson offers a seven-year warranty against water ingress on all overcab and low-profile motorhomes. This warranty is subject to an annual habitation check carried out by a certified member of the Chausson dealer network, typically costing around £250-£350 per year.

The watertightness warranty goes substantially beyond the industry standard and is one of the clearest signals of Chausson’s confidence in its own construction. Every new Chausson also comes with a standard two-year warranty on parts and labour.

One important note: if you miss a single annual habitation check, the seven-year warranty becomes void for that period. This is a condition that can catch owners out, so it’s critical to set a calendar reminder and book your check every year without fail. At Elite Motorhomes, we’re proud Chausson dealers and will proactively remind you when your check is due.

The Full Chausson Model Range Explained

Chausson’s range is broader than many buyers initially realise. The brand covers everything from compact sub-6-metre vans right through to large-footprint A-class integral motorhomes, with multiple layout philosophies along the way. Understanding the range structure makes choosing the right vehicle far simpler.

Chausson organises its lineup into several distinct body types: Vans (converted panel vans), S Slim-Line Low Profiles (a narrow coachbuilt body), X compact models (a unique concept sitting between van and motorhome), standard Low-Profile coachbuilts, Overcab motorhomes and A-Class integrals. Within each body type, trim levels add further differentiation.

Chausson Van Conversions – Sport Line & S Slim-Line

The van conversion side of Chausson’s range is handled under the Sport Line banner and includes two distinct architectural concepts: the traditional panel van conversions (the V-series) and the incredibly clever S Slim-Line low-profiles.

Chausson V-Series Vans

The V594 and V691 models are built on the Fiat Ducato chassis and sit firmly in the converted panel van category. At 5.99m and 6.36m respectively, they offer the driving agility and low-emission-zone-friendly dimensions of a standard LCV combined with a genuinely well-thought-out living space.

The V691 Sport Line is a particularly popular choice for couples who want the van lifestyle without sacrificing comfort. This model features a rear transverse double bed, a proper integrated shower, cassette toilet and a well-equipped kitchen. Both models have four travel seats and are well-suited to year-round European touring.

Chausson S Slim-Line Low-Profiles

The S series is Chausson’s answer to a frequently-asked question: can I have a coachbuilt motorhome that fits in my normal parking space and drives through narrow country lanes without drama?

The answer is yes. At just 2.1 metres wide, the same width as the Fiat or Ford cab section, the S Slim-Line is visually flush-sided from front to rear. It’s designed to be as narrow as a van on the outside but as spacious as a motorhome on the inside.

The S514 Sport Line, at 5.99m, is a consistent award-winner, taking Best Motorhome Under 6m at the Practical Motorhome Awards in both 2022 and 2023. The S614 Sport Line extends the concept to 6.59m with full family capacity, sleeping four and seating four for travel. For anyone frustrated by the width of conventional motorhomes on UK roads, the S range is genuinely a revelation.

Chausson Low-Profile Motorhomes – Etape Line & Titanium

The low-profile coachbuilt range is the heart of Chausson’s UK business. These are the vehicles most commonly seen on UK campsites and the range where Chausson’s layout innovation is most immediately apparent. There are two principal trim levels in this sector: the Etape Line and the Titanium (including the Titanium Ultimate).

What is the Etape Line?

The Etape Line is Chausson’s entry into the low-profile coachbuilt sector. ‘Entry’ is perhaps a misleading word, these motorhomes are comprehensively specified. The Etape Line is built on the Ford Transit chassis with a 2.0-litre engine available in 156bhp or 165bhp outputs, paired with an automatic gearbox.

Standard features include a full kitchen with hob and oven, a separate shower room, diesel heating, gas and electric water heating and factory-fitted comfort packs. The 630 Etape Line uses twin drop-down single beds, the 640 Etape Line uses an electric drop-down double bed over the Smart Lounge, both seating and sleeping four people. The 720 features an extended body with rear bunk bed provision for families of five.

What is the Titanium Range?

The Titanium series represents Chausson’s premium low-profile offering. It steps up to the Ford Transit’s top-specification 170bhp engine with a six-speed automatic gearbox, and brings a noticeably enhanced equipment list as standard.

The cab is upgraded with the Xzent infotainment system featuring DAB radio, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and rear-view camera. You also gain a heated windscreen, automatic headlights and wipers and a comprehensive driver assistance package including collision warning and lane departure warning systems.

The Chausson Titanium 640 is one of the brand’s most celebrated models, featuring the Maxi Lounge with face-to-face sofas, an electric drop-down double bed and a spacious rear dressing area.

The Titanium 660 is unique in the market with its U-shaped front lounge seating up to eight people and a second external access door to the garage. The Titanium 788 and 777 GA both deliver a large permanent rear island or transverse twin-bed arrangement without requiring an overall length of more than 7.2 metres, a significant achievement.

Award: The Chausson X650 was named Best Low-Profile Motorhome of the year at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2024. The S695 Sport Line won Best 2-Berth Motorhome at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2025. Chausson has achieved Silver status at the Owner Satisfaction Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The Chausson X Compact Range – Neither Van Nor Motorhome

The X range occupies a unique position in the Chausson lineup and indeed in the entire motorhome market. The X550 and X650 are described by Chausson themselves as sitting between a converted van and a traditional coachbuilt motorhome, and it’s an accurate description.

Both X models use the Fiat Ducato base and maintain a flush, van-like exterior width of 2.1 metres. Yet inside, they deliver features normally associated with much larger vehicles: a genuinely massive lounge, a proper rear dressing area with hanging wardrobe and a substantial underfloor garage.

The X650 achieves all of this in just 6.36 metres, sleeping up to four and seating five for travel. The X550 does something similar in under six metres, genuinely remarkable packaging.

The X range has proved enormously popular with motorhomers who find conventional low-profiles either too wide for their usual parking arrangements or too tall for their garage. The X’s identical cab-to-body width also makes it visually coherent and much easier to judge on narrow roads.

Chausson Overcab & A-Class Motorhomes

Overcab Motorhomes

Chausson’s overcab models, sometimes called coachbuilts with a luton or capucine, feature an elevated sleeping platform above the cab section. This is a traditional motorhome layout that provides the maximum number of sleeping berths within a given vehicle length, making overcabs particularly popular with families. Chausson’s overcab models can sleep six or seven people, with the overhead sleeping area accommodating two adults or several children, while the main habitation area provides additional berths. They represent excellent value for family groups who need maximum capacity without stretching to a much larger vehicle.

Chausson A-Class Motorhomes

The A-Class, or integral motorhome, is the pinnacle of the motorhome format. In an A-Class, the entire vehicle is purpose-built as one unit. There is no separate cab section and the driver’s area blends seamlessly into the habitation with a full-width, uninterrupted interior. Chausson’s A-Class range delivers this premium experience with the brand’s characteristic eye for value.

You get a substantially larger living space, a more sofa-like driver’s area with access from inside the habitation and typically more sophisticated onboard systems. Prices start higher than coachbuilts, generally above £85,000 for new models, but the quality of living space justifies the premium for full-time tourers and those who spend extended periods on the road.

The Chausson ElectriX

In September 2024, Chausson made history at the Paris Salon des Véhicules de Loisirs by unveiling the first dual-mode electric/diesel motorhomes ever offered to the European market. The ElectriX models are based on the X550 and X650 and represent a landmark moment not just for Chausson but for the entire motorhome industry.

How Does the Chausson ElectriX System Work?

The ElectriX is not a conventional hybrid where both power sources work simultaneously. Instead, it’s a dual-mode system developed in partnership with Bedeo, a specialist in commercial vehicle electrification. The existing Fiat Ducato front-wheel-drive diesel system (140bhp or 180bhp) is retained entirely intact.

Added to this is a 37kWh battery pack mounted beneath the vehicle, powering a 115kW electric motor driving the rear wheels. The driver selects either diesel mode or 100% electric mode, not both at once.

In 100% electric mode, the ElectriX motorhome can travel approximately 100km on a full charge, sufficient for most urban routing, low-emission zone navigation and local sightseeing. For longer inter-city or countryside touring, the diesel engine takes over, contributing to a combined potential range of approximately 900km.

The combined system adds around 400kg to the vehicle’s mass, though French legislation at launch excluded 300kg of battery weight from the official weight rating. It’s worth checking current UK weight and licence regulations when considering this model.

Why Does the ElectriX Matter for UK Buyers?

An increasing number of UK cities and towns are implementing Clean Air Zones or considering Low Emission Zone restrictions. The ability to enter these areas silently on battery power, avoiding charges that conventional diesel motorhomes would incur, is a tangible practical benefit. It also makes the motorhome significantly quieter in campsite situations when no engine is running.

The ElectriX is positioned as a forward-looking choice for buyers who want to future-proof their purchase. The X550 and X650 ElectriX are priced from approximately £86,220, representing a premium over the standard X models. For buyers with a long time horizon and regular urban usage, the running cost and access benefits may offset this over time.

Chausson Motorhomes vs The Competition

No purchase decision on a motorhome of this size and value should be made in isolation. It’s worth understanding how Chausson stacks up against its closest rivals in the UK market before committing. Below is an honest, balanced comparison across the most relevant dimensions.

If you want premium German-engineering perception, you’ll need to step up to Dethleffs, Hymer or Carthago at a notably higher price.

New vs Used Chausson Motorhomes – Which Should You Buy?

One of the most common questions buyers ask is simple: should I buy new or used? It’s a sensible question and there’s no single right answer. It depends entirely on your circumstances, budget and priorities.

The Case for Buying New

A new Chausson motorhome gives you exactly the specification you choose, your layout, your trim level, your optional extras. You get the full seven-year watertightness warranty from year one, the latest chassis technology and the peace of mind of knowing the vehicle has never been mistreated by a previous owner.

You’re also first in line to benefit from whatever innovations Chausson has introduced in the current model year. The downside is cost: new motorhomes depreciate significantly in the first few years, so you’ll absorb the steepest part of that curve personally.

The Case for Buying Used

Buying a used chausson motorhome avoids the worst depreciation hit. Motorhomes typically lose around 15-20% of their value in the first year, then continue depreciating at roughly 10% per year thereafter meaning a four-year-old motorhome may be worth only 50-55% of its original new price.

Buying at that point means someone else has already absorbed that loss. A used Chausson from a reputable dealer will typically have been damp-checked, serviced and inspected before sale, giving you reasonable protection against hidden defects.

The key risks with used Chausson motorhomes are water ingress, particularly if annual habitation checks have been missed, voiding the warranty and the general wear of internal fixtures and fittings. A professional habitation check before purchase is not optional; it’s essential. A good dealer will have completed this as part of their preparation process.

Elite Motorhomes Tip: Whether you’re buying new or used, always buy from a reputable Chausson-approved dealer. Elite Motorhomes inspects every used vehicle and can arrange finance, part-exchange and extended warranty on all Chausson models. Call 01295 500083 or visit www.elitemotorhomes.co.uk.

How Much Does a Chausson Motorhome Cost?

Chausson’s pricing is one of its most compelling selling points. The brand delivers a genuinely high level of standard specification at prices that regularly undercut premium British and German alternatives. Here’s a realistic guide to what you can expect to pay in the current UK market.

Chausson Motorhome Depreciation & Value Retention

Depreciation is an unavoidable reality of motorhome ownership, but understanding it helps you make smarter buying decisions. Motorhomes generally depreciate at a faster rate than residential property, but the curve varies significantly by brand, model popularity and condition.

As a mid-range continental brand, Chausson sits in a middle tier for depreciation. Premium German brands such as Hymer, Carthago and Dethleffs typically depreciate more slowly because of their higher perceived long-term quality and secondary market demand.

Chausson, while extremely popular, doesn’t command quite the same premium brand position on the used market, meaning depreciation is somewhat steeper. British brands like Bailey and Swift occupy a similar space.

In practical terms, expect a new Chausson to lose approximately 15-25% of its value in year one, followed by around 8-12% per year in years two to five. By year five, a well-maintained Chausson may have retained around 45–55% of its original price. Condition, mileage, service history and popularity of the specific layout are all significant factors.

To protect value, keep all service and habitation check records, maintain the interior in excellent condition, keep mileage reasonable (the average is around 5,000-7,000 miles per year for a leisure motorhome). Also, fitting optional extras that buyers value such as an awning, towbar and air conditioning all positively impact resale.

Buying at two to three years old allows you to benefit from someone else absorbing the worst depreciation without taking on the mechanical unknowns of a much older vehicle.

Chausson Warranties – Everything You Need to Know

Understanding what Chausson’s warranty actually covers and what it doesn’t is important for any buyer.

Standard 2-Year Parts & Labour Warranty

Every new Chausson motorhome, regardless of model, price or trim level, carries a two-year manufacturer’s warranty on parts and labour. This covers defects in materials and workmanship across the habitation area. Work can be carried out at your Chausson-approved dealer’s workshop or at any other certified Chausson workshop, subject to availability.

Chassis and mechanical warranty which covers the base vehicle, either Ford Transit or Fiat Ducato, is handled separately by the chassis manufacturer’s authorised garages.

7-Year Watertightness Warranty

The headline warranty is the seven-year water ingress guarantee on all low-profile and overcab models. This applies from the date of first registration and is subject to one critical condition: an annual habitation check by a certified Chausson dealer. Miss a single year and the warranty for that gap period is void. The annual check typically involves a full damp survey, appliance test and condition inspection, budget around £250-£350 per year.

It’s worth noting that this warranty is only as strong as the dealer network’s ability to honour it. Buying from an established, reputable Chausson dealer is therefore not just good practice, it’s genuinely important for your warranty security. Here at Elite Motorhomes,  we proactively contact customers when checks are due and handle all warranty submissions directly with Chausson on their behalf.

Extended Warranty Options

Beyond the manufacturer’s warranty period, extended cover is available through specialist motorhome warranty providers. Elite Motorhomes offers access to a range of warranty products designed to bridge the gap when manufacturer cover expires.

This gives you continued protection against parts and labour costs on mechanical, habitation and electrical systems,  worth seriously considering for any motorhome over two years old.

Motorhome Licensing, Insurance & Running Costs

What Driving Licence Do You Need for a Chausson Motorhome?

Most Chausson motorhomes, including all the popular low-profile models, are manufactured to a Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) of 3,500kg. This means they can be driven on a standard category B (car) driving licence held by most UK adults. No additional entitlement is needed and no tachograph is required for private use.

The 3,500kg limit does carry practical implications for payload, however, a fully loaded motorhome with passengers, water, food, clothing and leisure gear needs careful weight management.

Any motorhome over 3,500kg requires a C1 licence entitlement, which is generally held by those who passed their driving test before 1 January 1997. Younger drivers may need to take an additional test. Always verify the MAM of any specific model before purchase.

How Much Does It Cost to Insure a Chausson Motorhome?

Motorhome insurance premiums depend on a wide range of factors: the model, value, driver age and experience, annual mileage, storage type and security measures fitted. So it would be quite difficult for us to tell you how much your insurance will cost, but we can give you a rough idea.

For a typical new Chausson low-profile worth £75,000-£85,000, annual premiums might range from approximately £600 to £1,500 for a mature driver with a clean record and secure storage. First-time motorhome owners or those with previous claims can expect to pay more. Specialist motorhome insurers , rather than general van insurers, typically offer better value and more appropriate cover for leisure vehicle use.

What Are the Annual Running Costs of a Chausson Motorhome?

Running a motorhome involves more costs than just fuel. Here’s a realistic breakdown of what to expect annually for a typical low-profile Chausson used for leisure touring.

Cost ItemApproximate Annual Cost
Fuel (avg 25–30mpg, 5,000–7,000 miles)£1,200 – £2,000
Insurance£600 – £1,500
Annual habitation check£250 – £400
Mechanical service£300 – £600
MOT (if over 3 years old)£80 – £150
Road tax (VED)£340+ depending on emissions
Storage (if not home-driveway)£400 – £1,200
Campsite fees (varies enormously)£500 – £5,000+
Accessories, repairs, consumables£200 – £500

Once again, these are approximate figures for guidance. Your actual costs will depend heavily on mileage, touring frequency, storage arrangement and whether you use your motorhome year-round or seasonally.

How to Maintain Your Chausson Motorhome

A well-maintained Chausson motorhome will deliver years of trouble-free touring. Maintenance falls into two main areas: habitation maintenance (the living quarters) and mechanical maintenance (the base vehicle).

Annual Habitation Checks

As discussed in the warranty section, the annual habitation check is non-negotiable if you want to maintain the seven-year watertightness warranty. But beyond warranty compliance, it’s simply good practice.

The check includes a full damp survey of all walls, floor and ceiling, testing of all gas appliances, inspection of water systems including the whale pump and tank, checking of all electrical systems including solar and battery and a visual inspection of seals, windows and roof.

At Elite Motorhomes, we can take care of all of this for you through our dedicated servicing and repairs division, Elite Repairs. Our technicians are fully equipped to handle every aspect of your annual habitation check. This ensures your motorhome stays in optimal condition, remains fully compliant with warranty requirements and avoids the costly issues that arise from unnoticed wear or water ingress.

Key Maintenance Tips for Chausson Owners

  • Check and reseal roof vents, skylights and window surrounds annually, these are the most common entry points for water
  • Flush and sanitise the fresh water tank at the beginning and end of the season
  • Test the leisure battery health annually and replace proactively, a failing battery is a camping nightmare
  • Check tyre pressures and sidewall condition before every trip, motorhome tyres sit stationary for long periods and can develop flat spots or surface cracking
  • Exercise the gas system regularly to keep valves and connections supple
  • Keep the GRP exterior clean and apply a protective wax or sealant twice a year to maintain the finish and aid future cleaning

How to Choose the Right Chausson Motorhome for You

With so many models available, narrowing down which Chausson is right for you can feel daunting. The following questions will guide you quickly to the right section of the range.

1. How Many People Will Use It Regularly?

For two people travelling as a couple, the V691 Sport Line, S514 Sport Line, X550 or any Etape Line or Titanium 640 will serve you excellently. For families of four, the 720 Etape Line or the S614 Sport Line are natural choices. For families of five or six, the overcab range or the 720 or 722 with bunks provides the maximum berth count.

2. How Important is Size and Ease of Driving?

If you want the most manoeuvrable option with the smallest footprint, the V-series vans or the S514 Sport Line at under 6 metres are your friends. If width is your main concern on UK roads, the entire S Slim-Line range and the X compact range both measure just 2.1m across. This makes them significantly easier to place than a standard-width coachbuilt motorhome.

3. Is the Lounge Layout Your Priority?

If generous living space is the priority, the Maxi Lounge models 640, 660 and 720, are outstanding. The 640 Titanium’s face-to-face sofas with drop-down double overhead are a genuine home-from-home. The 660 with its U-shaped lounge seating eight people is almost unbelievable for the size of the vehicle.

4. Do You Need a Permanent Large Bed?

The 777 GA, 788 Titanium and 798 Ultimate all feature fixed rear island or transverse twin beds that you never have to make up. This is a lifestyle-changing feature for many owners who resent the effort of converting a dinette every evening. All three sit at 7.2-7.5 metres, so you’ll need to be comfortable with a slightly longer vehicle.

5. What’s Your Budget?

For under £65,000 on a new vehicle, the S514 or V594 Sport Line offers remarkable value. Between £70,000 and £80,000, the Etape Line range delivers excellent specification. Above £80,000, the Titanium models bring genuine premium touches. Used examples offer terrific value at every step of the price scale.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chausson Motorhomes

Are Chausson motorhomes reliable?

Chausson motorhomes have a good general reputation for reliability in normal touring use. The IRP construction provides solid long-term structural integrity.

The base vehicles, Ford Transit and Fiat Ducato are among the most proven commercial platforms in Europe. Issues that do arise tend to be around minor habitation fittings or water ingress when annual checks are missed.

Is Chausson a budget brand?

Chausson sits in the mid-range of the European motorhome market, not budget, not luxury. The philosophy of ‘a good product at the right price’ means you get a lot of standard equipment for the money compared with many rivals. It is accurate to say Chausson motorhomes are excellent value rather than simply cheap.

What chassis do Chausson motorhomes use?

Most Chausson low-profile and overcab models use the Ford Transit chassis in the UK, with the Fiat Ducato also used across the range, particularly for the X compact and van models. Both are excellent, well-supported platforms. Ford Transit models tend to carry the Titanium trim designation in the UK market.

Do Chausson motorhomes have automatic gearboxes?

Yes, Chausson motorhomes have automatic transmission that is standard across the Titanium and Sport Line ranges and increasingly fitted as standard on Etape Line models. The Ford Transit Titanium carries a six-speed torque-converter automatic, widely regarded as superior to the earlier Ducato Cityshift system.

What is the fuel consumption of a Chausson motorhome?

Fuel consumption of a Chausson motorhome varies by model, load and driving style. Expect approximately 25-30mpg for typical motorway and mixed touring use on most low-profile models. Heavier A-Class models or those driven more aggressively will sit closer to 20-24mpg. The ElectriX models achieve significantly better economy on short urban legs when running in electric mode.

How do I maintain the 7-year water ingress warranty on a Chausson motorhome?

To maintain the 7-year water ingress warranty on a Chausson motorhome, book and complete an annual habitation check with a Chausson-approved dealer every year without fail.

Retain all inspection reports as proof. One missed year voids the cover for that period. Reputable dealers like Elite Motorhomes will remind you proactively when your check falls due and handle everything on your behalf.

To Conclude Everything we Just Spoke About…

Chausson motorhomes represent something genuinely rare in the leisure vehicle industry, a brand that has held true to a clear, honest philosophy for over forty years. ‘A good product at the right price’ sounds simple, but delivering it consistently, year after year, at the scale of 10,000 vehicles per season, is a remarkable achievement.

The range is broader and more innovative than most buyers initially realise, there is a Chausson for almost every type of motorhomer. The ElectriX dual-mode system shows that the brand isn’t resting, it’s leading the industry into the next era.

If you’re seriously considering a Chausson motorhome, new or used, the next step is a conversation with a specialist who knows the range inside out. Elite Motorhomes is that specialist. Visit our team in Banbury, browse the latest stock online or contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
