The Dethleffs motorhome started from a caravan and is now the biggest manufacturer in Europe.
It was in 1931 that Arist Dethleffs (founder of Dethleffs) built Germany’s first camper car for his family so that he could take them along on business trips and today the majority of Dethleffs models are still made in Isny, with the rest made in partner factories in Germany.
In 1983 Dethleffs built its first motorhome and was the first German manufacturer to use the Fiat Ducato chassis for its coach-built models. Dethleffs only came to the UK some 23 years ago and since 2015 Dethleffs joined EHG (Erwin Hymer Group).
The German manufacturer is consistent in shouting about its core message “that buying a Dethleffs means you become a member of its family”.
The quality is in the DNA with optimised manufacturing processes based on the highest quality standards, precision and craftsmanship by largely self-trained specialists and exclusive of high-quality components and materials.
Dethleffs also build camper vans and have done so for more than 18 years, they have been producing conversions for vans with the finest craftsmanship. Over 7,000 urban campers and camper vans roll of their production line each year under the Possl and Crosscamp brands as well as Nissan urban camper models since March 2022. The first Dethleffs camper van was the Globevan and was the first urban camper under the Dethleffs brand, this was a multi-purposed vehicle classed as a motorhome but was suitable for everyday use.
